Huh… xbox 1 target audiance… as an older generation. I had not considered…
Ok, so imagine you’re a grandma… You have a TV remote, cable box remote, maybe a bluray player/dvd player. You are not a technical genius… your grandson put this all together… you have trouble remembering what you’re supposed to do to even turn it on.
Now imagine its all voice controlled, all in one box.
Xbox… wants to hit the same demographic the Wii hit. THAT’S why the tv controls… Thats why the always on system. It’s giving a decent manageable entertainment center to the technologically challenged.
They revealed the xbox showing The Price is Right? A gameshow that older americans watch? They aren’t selling a game console… they are selling Siri for your TV. A multimedia system, a nice voice controlled, single box solution that can even try and read your hand gestures to understand what you mean.
Just might have backfired in the whole game department for them
Yeah… but… maybe not… Look at it this way. The 50 yr old generation isn’t going to be buying fancy new technology for their TVs.
But they will buy the fancy new game console for their kids… and if it just so happens to enter them into a world of an easy to manage media center… Bam, you’ve just sold a new product pretending to be a console for your kids. They won’t even know what they are buying.
The kids will hook it up… once it’s on, its always on… no further configuration required… and there you go.
Except it’s mostly a console for teenagers and young adults than for kids, considering the content.. and those might most likely have that in their own room then and not share it with their family in the living room.
Makes perfect sense. Their own room that is too small for the kinect to work properly? :D
I know you and I liked consoles in our room, but in order to enjoy the super high resolution stuff, you’re gonna need a spectacular TV. That’s the living room on most family budgets - and of course a responsible parent may require the games to be in the living room for young children.
But even for tennagers and young adults… living with their 50 year old folks… The younger group of parents already knows how to wire this stuff up largely and is also likely mostly interested in the games.
It’s a little… conspiracy sounding… but it seems to hold water given what we know.
